Ami Dang (aka Amrita Kaur Dang) from Baltimore, MD creates music using sitar, vocals, and elecronics. The sound floats between ambient/sound collage/sound art and pop songs with club beats, all heavily influenced by Hindustani classical, Bollywood, and Indian folk musics. As a South Asian-American musician and media artist, she has studied Hindustani classical sitar with Dr. Anupam Mahajan and voice for many years in New Delhi, India and Maryland, USA and completed her B.A. from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Technology in Music and Related Arts.
In February 2011, she released her debut album Hukam on Ehse Records. (Hukam means "order" or "command" in Sanskrit and Punjabi.) Hukam also includes contributions by producer and DJ Schwarz
